Genuine Toyota HDJ80 fuel primer pump and bracket assembly
This is the genuine Toyota HDJ80 fuel primer pump, supplied as the complete alloy bracket assembly with the hand primer built in. Part number 23301-17170. It is the same unit Toyota fitted from factory, not a copy, and it bolts straight back into the original location on the 1HD-T.
What it actually does
The primer pump is how you get fuel back through the system after a filter change, a run out of fuel, or any job where you have cracked a line open. You pump it by hand until it goes firm, which pushes fuel through the filter and up to the injection pump so the engine will fire without cranking the battery flat. The bracket is the mounting platform the fuel filter housing sits on, so the two come as one assembly.
Why it matters on an 80 Series
These fail in a fairly predictable way. The internal diaphragm perishes with age and ethanol content in modern diesel, the check valves stop sealing, and the pump either goes soft and never builds pressure or it starts weeping fuel down the side of the bracket. Once that happens you are bleeding the system the hard way every single filter change, and a fuel leak sitting above a hot turbo diesel is not something to put off. The alloy bracket itself also corrodes around the mounting face on trucks that have lived near the coast or spent time in salt.
Fitting one is a straightforward job. Depressurise, catch what comes out of the filter, unbolt the bracket, swap it across and bleed the system properly before you start it.

Suits Toyota LandCruiser HDJ80 fitted with the 1HD-T 4.2 litre six cylinder turbo diesel engine, built 08/1992 to 01/1995. Check your build plate date before ordering, as there is a running change in this part across the HDJ80 production run.
