Genuine Toyota Landcruiser Thermostat Kit
This landcruiser thermostat kit pairs the genuine Toyota thermostat with the correct housing seal, so you’re not chasing a separate part number halfway through the job. The thermostat starts to open at 76 degrees and is fully open at 90 degrees, which is the factory spec for the 1HZ, 1HD-T, 1HD-FT and 1HD-FTE diesel engines.
What It Actually Does
The thermostat controls how quickly the engine reaches operating temperature and holds it there. Stay closed too long and you cook it. Stick open and the engine runs cold, which on a diesel means poor combustion, more soot, diluted oil and a heater that never gets properly warm. Neither outcome is one you want in a 4.2 litre that’s already worked hard for two decades.
Why The Seal Matters
Reusing an old rubber housing seal is the fastest way to end up doing the job twice. They go hard, flatten out and weep coolant from the housing face once the system comes back up to pressure. Fitting Notes
Straightforward job on most of these engines. Drain enough coolant to clear the housing, note the orientation of the jiggle pin before removal, and refit with the pin at the top so trapped air can escape. Clean the housing face back to bare metal, seat the new seal dry, and torque evenly. Bleed the system properly afterwards and check the level again once it’s had a heat cycle.
